Srinagar to Budgam

Budgam is very near to Srinagar but people are often not aware of this place. It is hardly 10km away from Srinagar and will take hardly 20 minutes.  But this is a very nice place for a weekend getaway. Since people are unaware of Budgam this remains empty. This is also the youngest district of Jammu. Tourists visit Kashmir through the well known Poonch Gali which borders Budgam near the Khag area. There are some interesting tourist spots in this area which are Mount Tuta Kutti, Nilnag, Doodpathri. Yousmarg a famous picnic spot is located in this area. The surrounding dense forest and the river create a picturesque scenario of the place.

Sonmarg is also known as “meadow of gold”. The Thajiwas Glacier located in Sonmarg attracts your attention. There are lot of ways through which you can visit this glacier. You can climb up to the glacier if you know trekking. This will just take five hours. If you do not have so much time or you do not know mountaineering then you can hire taxi or pony ride. Pony rides are costly and this will charge you nearly 600 rupees per person and hence you must bargain with the pony drivers.
