Some of the popular tourist places of Srinagar are as follows:

Dal Lake- This is one of the most popular tourist spots in Srinagar. The lake is segregated into four sections and sprawls over an area of 26 square kilometers, and it has a number of houseboats. The Shikharas present in the lake are one of the main attractions of this lake. One can enjoy various recreational activities like swimming, Shikhara rides, houseboat stays, kayaking, angling, swimming, canoeing, water plant harvesting and fishing. The lake gets frozen during the winters due to extreme temperatures and the nearby area of Dal Lake has a number of eateries and great shops to go on a shopping spree.

Nagin Lake- One of the sure shot  tourist spots to visit in Srinagar is this lake that is smaller and cleaner than the Dal Lake however, has a lot of facilities for recreational activities like sailing of boats, skiing on water, spending time and dining in a houseboat etc. There is a small trench that separates Nagin Lake from the Dal Lake and it is slightly aloof in comparison to the Dal Lake. One can spot a number of Shikharas and Houseboats in this lake. This lake is also popularly known as the "Jewel in the Ring" as it is situated in close proximity to the Dal Lake.

Nishat Bagh- Embellished with a number of flower beds, extra ordinary lawns, exemplary species of flowers, beautiful fountains and many other brilliant art pieces, this Mughal Garden is a place that can uplift your spirits and make you feel rejuvenated. This garden was built by Abdul Hasan Asaf Khan  in the year 1633 and is located on the banks of Dal Lake.

Religious Spots in Srinagar

Some of the popular religious places in Srinagar, that deserves a visit for sure are as follows:

Hazratbal Mosque-
This is one of the most ancient religious places in Srinagar and holds great historical value. It is a beautiful mosque made of white marble and is located on the banks of the Dal Lake. This grand architecture is reminiscent of the blend of the great Kashmiri and Mughal architecture. This mosque has been christened with various names by the devotees like the Madinat-us-Sani, Asar-e-Sharif, Dargah Sharif etc. A relic of the great prophet of Islam nmaed Muhammed is present in this mosque in the form of a hair and is greatly revered by the devotees.

Jama Masjid- Another popular religious place that bears a strong influence on the overall religious fervor and cultural ethos of Srinagar is this ancient mosque that stands tall denoting the greatness of the Islamic architecture. Built in the year 1674, the mosque has around 370 pillars with large prayer halls and 4 towers. This mosque is a place of regular visit for many locals and especially on Fridays, this mosque is hugely crowded.
 
Shankaracharya Temple- Built by King Jaluka, the son of great emperor Ashoka around the year 200 BC, this enthralling monument spreads across a mountainous range that is located at a height of 1,100 feet. One can get hold of an enchanting view of the snow clad mountains of the Pir Panjal mountain range and is one of the highlights of the tourism circuit in Srinagar.

There are a number of other tourist spots like the Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary that houses some of the rarest species of animals and has a great spread of flora and fauna, the Indira Gandhi Tulip garden that is renowned for the tulip festival that is held every year, Sri Pratap Singh Museum that displays some of the great paintings and artifacts from the 3rd to 5th century and many others.

Best Time To Visit Srinagar

The ideal time to visit Srinagar is from the months of February to May and from the months of September to November, when the weather is not too hot nor too cold and is very suitable for sight seeing and other recreational activities.

How to Reach Srinagar?

The city of Srinagar is very well connected to the rest of India. One can reach Srinagar, by air, train and road.

By Air: The Srinagar Airport named Sheikh Ul Alam airport is located at a distance of 15 kms from the heart of the city and is an international airport. There are many flight from Delhi, Chandigarh and Mumbai that travel to Srinagar on a daily basis.

By Train: In order to reach Srinagar by train, one has to travel to Udhampur or Jammu Tawi railway station from where one can travel via taxi or by bus to Srinagar. There are many trains in different parts of India that connect to the two railway stations mentioned above.

By Road: There are many buses and taxis that can help you reach Srinagar from different cities like Delhi, Chandigarh, Jammu etc. as there are motor able roads and good connectivity. Cities like Delhi, Jammu, Chandigarh and Leh are at a distance of 876 Kms, 258 Kms, 646 Kms and 424 Kms respectively.
